Fireflies at Dusk

Actual dimensions(WxH in inches): 2.5 x 3.5 (ATC) - Material: Crystal Dye black on Fabriano Drawing Paper "Steel Gray" - Oct 2003

The image on the left was my offering for the Bugs and Insects ATC [Artist Trading Card] swap (a CC swap) hosted by Vanessa Gilkes (22 participants). The fireflies were heavily modified from photos I found on the internet. The "grass" was hand-drawn.

The "dots" are actually blobs of glow-in-the-dark acrylic paint (the image on right). I got the idea while in the #eraser chat room one night (thanks!). The blobs had to be thick in order for them to glow as brightly as I wanted them to. Unfortunately, the acrylic also seemed to disolve the ink under them and form dark "eyes" in the blobs. Also unfortunate is the fact that my digital camera doesn't do a better job at photographing glow-in-the-dark acrylic paint on dark paper (smile).
