Carving - Cattleya labiata
Cattleya labiata
Actual dimensions(WxH in inches): 2.1 x 2.5 - Material: Nasco Safety-Kut - Aug2003
Orchids hold a very special place in my heart, especially the orchids in the genus "Cattleya". In the plant world, I'd be known as a "species nut"... in that I tend to focus on the actual species that nature has created as opposed to the hybrids that man creates from those species. The orchid depicted here is the type species for the genus. The image is taken from a photo that I took of a an orchid I grew and bloomed.
The image was originally intended as part of my ATC (Artist Trading Card) entry in the Carving Consortium's "Language of Flowers" swap hosted in the Summer of 2003 by Andrea Scholes. Fifty carving artists took part... it was great! The carving was done almost entirely with a hobby knife.
