Carving - Owls #1

Owls stamp #1

Actual dimensions(WxH in inches): 1.4 x 1.1 - Material: Nasco Safety-Kut - Apr2003

This image was originally part of a bookplate in Dover's "Treasury of Bookplates". On the owl to the right, I tried adding ruffling around the face by first pushing indents with an embossing stylus. I then cut through them with the knife. It worked a little. I think I should have used a large pin, instead (a smaller diameter indent). The head of the owl on the left was done with just the knife. The breast spots were done with a large pin pushed in to various depths. Most of this stamp was carved with a razor knife (#11 blade). Some of it was done with a #2 Speedball Lino-cutter. I took this image as my "Avatar" on the Carving Consortium's Forum.
