I became aquainted with the work of photographer Miles Tittle several years ago. This image is based on one of a series taken on an overcast day at Long Beach in Canada. The model was on a very large expanse of flat, wet sand. I loved the stark image and feel like the carving captured some of the mood of that original photo.
I used both a knife and gouges for this carving but found that my skill with the gouge is still in an early developmental stage. This is evidenced mostly in the shadow lines.
